Kuujjuaq (Québec), March 29, 2017 – The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) is pleased to mark in 2017 an important milestone for women in Nunavik. The Saturviit Inuit Women’s Association of Nunavik is celebrating 10 years of successful advocacy on the status of women and family issues.

“Over the past decade, Saturviit has promoted initiatives fostering the well-being of women and girls in every Nunavik community, ensuring their voices are heard at the regional, provincial and national levels,” stated KRG Chairperson Jennifer Munick. “Significant progress has been made to improve the quality of life of women in the region and increase their economic leverage. As a woman and an elected official, I’m proud of the KRG’s long-term support for Saturviit, and I am convinced the association will continue to have a positive impact on the future of our region.”

The Saturviit Inuit Women’s Association of Nunavik was established in the summer of 2006, following up on a successful meeting of Inuit women from each Nunavik community and from the south organized the preceding year at the Qilalugaq Camp near Puvirnituq. Saturviit, which in Inuktitut means those that provide hope, has become a strong voice for Nunavik women. The association’s office is situated in Puvirnituq.

The Saturviit Inuit Women’s Association of Nunavik currently receives support for its activities through an administrative agreement between the KRG and the Secrétariat à la condition féminine (status of women).

Arnaliat Nipingit 2017, the third regional women’s conference, is organized by the Saturviit Inuit Women’s Association of Nunavik in Kangirsuk from March 27 to 31. The conference’s planned theme is “Embracing Our Future Together”.
